Disability Services
Human Rights for People with Disability
The United Nations is about to make a Convention that will set out the human rights of persons with disability. This is an exciting development that has the potential to fundamentally improve the life opportunities of persons with disability around the world, including Australians with disability. Queensland Advocacy Incorporated is developing a set of human rights indicators for people with disability. The overall aim of this project is to make visible the relationship between the lived experience of persons with disability and the international human rights standards accepted by the Australian Government.

Disability Services Queensland
Disability Services Queensland (DSQ) was established in December 1999 to provide a strong focus on disability across Queensland Government. It replaced the former disability program that was part of Families, Youth and Community Care Queensland. DSQ is the first disability focused department in Queensland. Central to ongoing reform of disability services, we represent a new way forward for people with a disability and their families. We work closely with communities to enhance service delivery and allow people with a disability and their families more input into the policies that affect them. Our responsibilities include: The provision of services and supports, both direct services (provided by the Department) and those provided through the non-government sector; Community infrastructure development; and Whole-of-Government leadership and coordination.
